Amélie - 17th - 21st November 2026, Hampton Hill Theatre

Book by Craig Lucas
Music by Daniel Messé
Lyrics by Nathan Tysen & Daniel Messé
Based on the motion picture Amélie written by Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Guillaume Laurant

Magical, romantic, and brimming with heart, Amelie brings Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s five-time Oscar-nominated film to the stage with humour and imagination. The show follows Amélie, an inventive but shy young woman who lives vividly inside her own imagination, as she secretly improvises small acts of mischief and kindness for those around her, so she can be her own Parisian Lady Di. When a kindred soul a crossed her path, Amélie realises she’ll need to move beyond the lonely isolation of her youth and allow herself to be truly seen.

Focusing on the theatricality and imagination of this beautiful production, the creative team want to focus on creating an immersive world that the audience and the cast can feel lost in. This is a show that speaks straight to the heart and we are hoping to build together a cast who can bring their own full hearts to the project.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

All characters, except Elton John/Garden Gnome will need to demonstrate a French accent, we appreciate all efforts but ask that people veer more towards Isabelle Huppert than Pepe Le Pew.

f = female identifying
m = male identifying

Amélie is a true ensemble piece, everyone will multi-role and be involved in world building.

Amélie (f, late 20s – 30s, a dreamer)
Amélie is our hero, we see the world through her creative, if isolated, imagination. She is funny, cheeky and naughty, but can be a bit cowardly.

Nino & others (m, late 20s – 30s, a collector)
Nino is a kindred spirit for Amélie, if only they could cross paths. He is a shy but determined young man who has enough bravery for him and Amélie.

Dufayel & others (m, 40s+, a painter)
Dufayel is a dedicated but fragile man, like Amélie has maybe spent too much time alone.

Raphael & others (m, 30s+, a father)
Amèlie’s loving if nervous father who is unaware how his aloofness has created distance with his daughter.

Hipolito & others (m, any age, a writer)
Amélie’s friend. An observer of human kind. Keen to leave his mark on the world but unsure of how.

Lucien & others (m, 20s, a simple man)
A lover of the simple things in life, there is beauty and joy in the small things and Lucien knows this.

Georgette & others (f, any age, a hypochondriac)
As much as Georgette worries for her own health, she also cares for others. A good friend and a good judge of character, sometimes.

Joseph & others (m, any age, a problem)
A plumber with too much intensity. A walking red flag.

Bretodeau & others (m, 40+, a boy at heart)
Amélie’s first good deed project. A man who finds a new lease on life through nostalgia.

Suzanne & others (f, 40s+, an ex circus performer)
Amélie’s boss. A mystery wrapped in an enigma and this is intriguing to many.

Gina & others (f, any age, a widow)
A waitress with Amélie at The Two Windmills cafe. Trying to move on in her life but constantly pulled backwards.

Blind Beggar & others (any gender, any age, a musician)
A Parisian and another recipient of Amélie’s good deeds.

Philomene & others (f, any age, a air hostess)
A cat owner and a world traveller. Up for a plan and getting stuck in.

Amadine & others (f, any age, a mother)
Amélie’s mother and teacher. Sometimes too harsh but gone too soon.

Elton John, Fluffy & Garden Gnome (any gender, any age, a superstar, a fish & an ornament)
Comedy gold comes in many forms and wears many hats, not all of them pointy.
